One thing that sets Indonesian urban act RAN apart is their uniquely organic sound. Leveraging off their influence from smooth old school R&B legends such as Marvin Gaye, the trio–consisting of Astono Andoko, Rayi Putra and Anindyo Baskoro– created a sound combining the funky and thumping dance grooves of modern R&B with the timeless melodies of yesteryear soul pop.It’s a sound that has not only got them on our radar, but garnered them four nominations in the prestigious MTV Indonesia Music Awards 2009. Not difficult to imagine once you’ve given them a spin. Not difficult to love either.
